Course: Deep learning in image analysis

Do you want to learn how Artificial intelligence powered algorithms can be used for image analysis tasks such as image classification, object detection or image quality improvement? This course is for you!

Artificial intelligence (AI)-powered algorithms are slowly revolutionising the way we analyse microscopy images. AI-based algorithms can now be applied to perform virtually any high-performance image analysis tasks such as classifying images, detecting and segmenting objects, aligning images, or improving image quality by removing noise or increasing image resolution. Despite these advances, training and deployment of such neural networks remain difficult for practitioners of image analysis. This course aims 1) teach key principles to consider before using deep learning algorithms to analyse images. 2) Teach the participants to use deep learning-based methods via the ZeroCostDL4Mic platform to solve their data and image analysis problems.

Course program:

Session 1: Monday, November 22nd 9-12.30 (open for anyone)
Lecture 1 – Introduction to DL in histopathology image analysis – Pekka Ruusuvuori
Lecture 2 – Introduction to DL in microscopy image analysis – Guillaume Jacquemet
Demo – ZeroCostDL4Mic – Guillaume Jacquemet

Session 2: Friday, December 3rd at 13-15 (25 seats, Turku priority)
Hands-on workshop on ZeroCostDL4Mic for a limited number of students (priority for researchers in Turku, but if space, open for researchers outside of Turku as well).

Session 3: Friday, December 10th at 13-16 (25 seats, Turku priority)
Researchers can come for further help with their image analysis problems they have been first independently working on after session 2.
