FINNISH AND INTERNATIONAL IMAGING RESOURCES

Turku Cell Imaging Core
The Cell Imaging Core is a centralised facility where end users receive the support needed to carry out conventional and advanced imaging techniques. The unit has combined resources from Åbo Akademi University and Turku University to provide state-of-the-art imaging and flow cytometry equipment and services that are open to all researchers. In addition, CIC provides hands-on training to users and offers consultation on experimental design and image analysis. For experienced users, CIC organises advanced workshops on imaging and flow cytometry methods and applications.  CIC has representation at Biocentre Finland Bioimaging Coordination, maintains links with national and international imaging centres and coordinates the Nordic Imaging Network.

Turku PET Centre
Turku PET Centre offers PET expertise in drug discovery and development, clinical expertise linking pathophysiology with the disease, human PET imaging studies and animal PET imaging studies in cooperation with Turku Centre for Disease Modeling. Turku PET Centre has a partnership agreement with Turku Imanet Oy (GE Healthcare, Medical diagnostics)

Turku Centre for Disease Modeling
Turku Centre for Disease Modeling (TCDM) is a research infrastructure at the Institute of Biomedicine that  provides expertise in disease modeling in experimental animals. TCDM offers, in cooperation with Turku PET Centre, small animal imaging services that support both academic and industrial associated non-clinical research (basic, preclinical, translational). The following techniques are applied: Optical Imaging, MRI, PET, Ultrasound imaging and X-Ray Imaging. In cooperation with the Institute of Microbiology and Pathology, TCDM offers services imaging of tissues, cellular and subcellular structures in basic histology and in immunohistochemistry from light microscopy to electron microscopy.

EM Core Facility
Laboratory of Electron Microscopy serves as core facility for nanoscopic imaging and offers transmission electron microscopy, scanning electronmicroscopy, atomic force microscopy, scanning tunneling microscopy, immunocytochemistry and element analysis and localization by combined x-ray spectrometry. Samples can be prepared from e.g. tissues, cells, bacteria, viruses, nano- and other particles, macromolecules and different materials. The images are recorded on sheet films or as digital image files. EM-lab can offer full service and consultation in planning of experiments, sample processing, microscopic examination and recording of images as well as reporting the results and their interpretation.
